Saving Money on Your Propane Service

Nobody wants to pay more than they have to for reliable propane service. Below are some options for saving money and making your service more reliable.

The services described below may not be available at all locations. Call your local 1st Propane® owner for more information.

Worry Free Service
Your consumption is tracked by our computer system and we take responsibility for not letting the tank run empty. This is a service that is guaranteed in writing. This program will save you money and make your propane service truly Worry-Free.

Cash in Advance or on Delivery
Paying in advance or paying your route salesman at delivery time will also earn a discount off of your regular price.

Pre-Buy
During the summer your local owner may offer the opportunity for you to purchase your winter's supply of propane in advance, at summer prices. This opportunity assumes that prices will increase in the winter and you will have purchased your needs at a lower price. Be aware that this is the typical situation, but there is no guarantee that prices will increase in the winter.

Budget Payment Plan
This program estimates your annual consumption plus your tank rent and any sales tax, and divides that amount by the number of months remaining between sign-up time and the end of the following March. You make equal monthly payments. This program is available for sign up during the months of April, May, June and July. You receive the cash purchase price on this program, but do pay current market prices at time of delivery. The payment amount may be adjusted during the year if prices increase or decline or your consumption is higher or lower than estimated. Any remaining differences are settled during April, at which time you get a refund, or pay a remaining balance, or apply any over payment to the following year.

Propane Dollars
This is credits that you can use to reduce your propane costs by referring your friends or neighbors to 1st Propane. If you don't have any Propane Dollars, please call your local office.

Conservation

  1. Insulation: A small investment in weather stripping can cut drafts and reduce your energy bill.
  2. Turn down your thermostat.
  3. Keep your doors closed.
  4. Lower the temperature setting on your water heater.
  5. Modern Appliances: A new heater or water heater can reduce your energy costs. Appliances sold today are much more efficient than those sold 15 to 20 years ago.

Fuel Assistance Programs
Many states and counties have programs that will help you pay for your winter heating fuel.

Propane vs. Electricity
In most parts of the country, propane costs less than electricity to heat your home.
